Waka

This Maori Canoe is from Napier and is named "Te Matau a Māui" (the fish-hook of Māui). It is named after the Hawke’s Bay area, where in legend Māui foul hooked a great fish with the jawbone of his Grandmother." The gannet you see in each image reflects the bird on the Waka's Sail.
